The Vickers Vimy Exhibition Space at Adelaide Airport showcases a 1919 vintage Vickers Vimy aircraft — one of the earliest long-distance aircraft to complete the England-to-Australia flight. The new purpose-built exhibition space within the Adelaide Airport terminal was delivered by BESIX Watpac and required a high-specification floor system that matched the architectural intent of the space.
Floortek was engaged to install a self-levelling epoxy floor system throughout the exhibition area. The floor needed to be seamless, highly reflective, and precise — a rough or textured finish would have conflicted with both the aesthetic of the space and the visibility of the aircraft display. Self-levelling epoxy was the right system: it flows to a glass-like finish without roller or trowel marks, and produces the kind of high-gloss surface that complements a contemporary exhibition environment.
Scope of Works
- Surface preparation — concrete substrate prepared, vacuumed, and CSP signed off before coating
- Self-levelling epoxy system — poured and spread to achieve a seamless, high-gloss finish across the full exhibition floor plate
- Colour and finish specification — matched to the architectural specification for the space
Working in an airport environment means working within tight access windows and construction schedules. The floor had to be installed, cured, and handed over within the programme — no delays, no rework.
