Builder: Ahrens | Client: SA Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure | Service: Non-Slip Epoxy Walkways & Penetrating Dust-Proofing Sealer | Location: Woodville South, South Australia
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woodville South is one of South Australia’s major public hospitals. The multi-storey car park project was delivered by national construction and engineering group Ahrens for the SA Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure — providing structured car parking to support the hospital’s patient, visitor and staff demand.
Floortek was engaged by Ahrens to deliver the complete flooring scope across the car park structure:
- Non-slip epoxy coating to all pedestrian walkways — a durable, high-traction epoxy system applied to all pedestrian circulation paths within the car park, providing safe passage for hospital visitors and staff. Non-slip finish is critical in a public hospital environment where ambulant and mobility-impaired users are common.
- Penetrating dust-proofing sealer to all car park deck areas — a penetrating concrete sealer applied to the full extent of the car park driving and parking surfaces, hardening and sealing the concrete substrate to prevent concrete dust generation from vehicle traffic. This protects the structure, reduces maintenance, and keeps the environment clean for hospital users.
Car park structures require flooring systems that perform under constant vehicle traffic loads, UV exposure, and weather penetration. Penetrating sealers chemically react with the concrete rather than sitting on the surface — they cannot delaminate or peel, making them the right specification for large exposed car park decks where membrane systems are impractical.
