Builder: Sarah Constructions | Service: Mechanically Polished Concrete | Location: Springfield, Adelaide, South Australia
Pembroke School engaged Sarah Constructions to deliver a new middle school building at their Springfield campus — a contemporary educational facility designed to support creative, collaborative learning across year levels. Floortek was engaged by Sarah Constructions to complete the mechanically polished concrete flooring package throughout the building.
The polished concrete system was specified to deliver a durable, low-maintenance floor finish capable of handling the demands of a high-traffic school environment while meeting the project’s anti-slip compliance requirements. The finish needed to be consistent across a variety of spaces — classrooms, corridors, workshops, and breakout areas — each with different functional requirements.
Scope of Works
- Mechanically polished concrete flooring installed throughout the school building
- Surface grinding, honing, and polishing to specified gloss level
- Penetrating lithium silicate densifier applied to harden and dustproof the slab
- Anti-slip compliance met across all zones including wet-area approaches
- Consistent finish delivered across classrooms, corridors, workshops, and breakout spaces
Why Polished Concrete for Schools
Polished concrete is one of the most practical flooring choices for educational buildings. It requires no waxing or periodic stripping, resists heavy foot traffic, and is easy to clean — reducing ongoing maintenance costs across the life of the building. The sealed surface also improves indoor air quality by eliminating the dust and allergens that accumulate in carpet fibres. At Pembroke, the finish delivers a clean, professional aesthetic consistent with the quality of the broader building works.
