Builder: Ahrens | Client: BHP Asset Projects Group | Service: Heavy-Duty Epoxy Flooring | Location: Olympic Dam, South Australia | Program: 9 months
Olympic Dam is one of the world’s largest known deposits of uranium and a significant copper and gold mining operation, operated by BHP in outback South Australia. The Surface Workshop Expansion project saw Ahrens deliver Stage 1 and Stage 2 of BHP’s increased Surface Workshop Capacity program — a 2,300m² extension to the existing diesel workshop building, adding another 12 workshop bays along with full electrical and mechanical fit-out.
Floortek was engaged by Ahrens to install a heavy-duty non-slip epoxy flooring system throughout the expanded workshop and all associated walkways. Mining workshop environments demand the highest level of flooring performance — the floor must withstand constant heavy vehicle traffic, fuel and hydraulic fluid spills, mechanical impact, and the abrasive conditions of a working diesel workshop while maintaining a non-slip surface for the safety of personnel on site.
- Heavy-duty non-slip epoxy flooring system — installed throughout all 12 new workshop bays and the workshop floor areas, specified to withstand the demands of heavy mining equipment maintenance
- Walkways — non-slip epoxy system applied to all internal walkways throughout the facility, providing clearly defined, safe pedestrian circulation routes within the active workshop environment
Delivering works at a remote mine site requires thorough site induction, compliance with BHP’s site safety requirements, and coordination with Ahrens’ construction program in a live operational environment. Floortek completed the scope within the 9-month project program.
